LAST YEAR WAS EMOTIONALLY EXHAUSTING FOR A LOT OF REASONS. SO MUCH WAS HAPPENING IN POLITICS, IN ENTERTAINMENT, AND I’M SURE, IN ALL OF OUR PERSONAL LIVES. LOTS OF THINGS THAT TYPICALLY WERE HIDDEN FROM THE PUBLIC CAME TO LIGHT, GIVING US SO MUCH TO THINK AND TALK ABOUT. WHILE WE ARE ALL QUICK TO TALK ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE MEDIA, IT CAN FEEL DIFFICULT TO TALK ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON IN OUR OWN LIVES. AS MUCH AS I AM AN ADVOCATE FOR STAYING INFORMED ABOUT WHAT’S GOING ON AROUND US, I THINK IT’S TIME TO BE JUST AS IN TOUCH WITH OURSELVES.
"IF I TALK ABOUT IT TOO MUCH, IT WON'T HAPPEN." THIS IS A STATEMENT THAT I HAVE HEARD SO MANY TIMES BEFORE FROM FRIENDS. THAT THOUGHT PROCESS AND OTHER SIMILAR ONES ARE WHAT MY FRIENDS AND I LIKE TO CALL, "THE JINX." WE WON'T TELL EACH OTHER ABOUT SOME AMAZING CAREER OPPORTUNITY OR ABOUT THE COOL PERSON WE JUST MET UP WITH, FOR FEAR OF SPEAKING TOO SOON OR GETTING OUR HOPES UP FOR NOTHING. I'LL ADMIT, I DEFINITELY HAVE HAD THESE THOUGHTS CROSS MY MIND. DOUBT AND FEAR ARE ALL TOO REAL WHEN IT COMES TO GOALS, AND ACCEPTING THEM OURSELVES IS DIFFICULT ENOUGH.
But not talking about what we want in life with others may actually be hurting us. I’m all for protecting our magic, but if you share your aspirations with the people in your life who actually support and love you, there’s a better chance of making them happen. By talking about your dreams and goals, you have to actually face them. The great thing about saying it out loud is that you’re making it real. Which is why I am working on positive manifestation and speaking what I want into existence.
Positive manifestation basically mirrors the Law of Attraction: the belief that by using positive thinking in regards to what you want, you will bring those wants into your life. By this belief, we should all be talking about what we want--our hopes and dreams in order to bring them to fruition.
I am a total believer in positive thinking but I also am a huge player in not speaking for fear of "The Jinx."
I think we all have it. That quiet voice inside of us, telling us why we wake up every day--your gut knows a lot about you. Even though the gut feeling can be dulled out sometimes by worry and doubt, it can't be fully ignored. If you’re a newbie to getting in touch with what you really want and positive thinking, it can be a major challenge. But, try this:
Trust yourself. Everything you are attracted to and whatever makes you happy is important. They're not random and will help you get a sense of what you should be wanting more of in your life.
Write it all out. Try a stream of consciousness type of writing all about what you want and what that looks like. Don’t hold back. Really write out all the details of your goals and how you want to feel.
Visualize yourself being successful and in your dream situation. Think about how you feel in that moment and hold onto it. This one is tricky and can feel kind of lame, but I promise it's worth it! No one knows you better than yourself.
Keep those who support you and want to see you win close. Tell them all about what you want. I am sure they'll be there through it all and not only cheer you on but help keep you accountable.
Our thoughts have a great impact on our lives and it’s time we start fully investing in ourselves. #CommitToYou. Trust those goals, ambitions, and wants. The moment you have thought about them, that is the moment when they have become real. The beginning of the year is always filled with reflection and recalibration. But the truth is that you can begin again at any moment, you just have to decide and put the work in. Do you, bishes, and start making those dreams a reality!
